maximizing your Ipod battery

This helps a lot.

Extend Your Battery Life

If you want to extend the battery life of your iPod for any given charge cycle, you may conserve power by following these tips.

Hold and Pause
It may seem obvious, but set the Hold switch when you aren’t using your iPod. This will prevent iPod controls from inadvertently waking up iPod and using unnecessary power. Also, if you are not listening to iPod, pause it, or turn it off by pressing the play button for two seconds.

Optimize Your Settings
There are a few features that use your iPod battery more quickly. If you don’t use these features, your iPod will play tunes longer.

■Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi consumes power even if you are not using its features to connect to a network. You can turn it off to save power. Go to Settings > General > Network > Wi-Fi.
■Backlight: Setting the backlight to “always on” will significantly reduce your battery life. Only use the backlight when necessary.
■Equalizer: Adding EQs to playback uses more of your iPod processor, since they aren’t encoded in the song. Turn EQ off if you don’t use it. If, however, you’ve added EQ to tracks in iTunes, you’ll need to set EQ to “flat” in order to have the effect of “off,” because iPod keeps your iTunes settings intact.
■Minimize use of third-party applications: Excessive use of applications on iPod touch, such as games that prevent the screen from dimming or shutting off, can reduce battery life.
■Fetch new data less frequently: Applications on iPod touch such as Mail can be set to fetch data wirelessly at specific intervals. The more frequently email or other data is fetched, the quicker your battery may drain. To fetch new data manually, from the Home screen choose Settings > Fetch New Data and tap Manually. To increase the fetch interval, go to Settings > Fetch New Data and tap Hourly. Note that this is a global setting and applies to all applications that do not support push services.
■Turn off push mail: If you have a push mail account on iPod touch such as Yahoo!, MobileMe, or Microsoft Exchange, turn off push mail when you don’t need it. Go to Settings > Fetch New Data and set Push to Off. Messages sent to your push email accounts will now be received on your iPod touch based on the global Fetch setting rather than as they arrive.

Cheap iPod Anyone?

Having an iPod these days is not a status symbol anymore. For those like me who works for the web and designs graphics with high MB file size, iPod nano, iPod mini, or iPod shuffle is an investment. With iPods's 6 to 60 GB capacity, it is a dream of every techie. You can save all of your important files in a small, sleek and very elegant iPod.

But of course, a $300 to $400 ++ iPod nano or iPod video costs too much for some of us. If you want to have a cheap iPod and wouldn't want to settle for anything less (and go for the cheap flash audio players around), then you may need to read my suggestions below to be able to have that cheap iPod that your money can buy (and your conscience to allow).

GO FOR REFURBISHED

No one would notice that your iPod nano, iPod video, iPod mini or iPod shuffle was bought from a cheap iPod refurbished e-store. In fact if you buy a new iPod, it will look the same like the refurbished cheap iPod after a few months of use. No one would try to look for your receipt just to know you bought your iPod nano, iPod video, iPod mini or iPod shuffle from an Apple store and not from a cheap iPod store, or would they?

Also, if you bought a new iPod from an Apple iPod store and then the time came that you needed an iPod battery replacement, you will need to pay Apple iPod store 59 bucks for a refurbished iPod nano, iPod video, iPod mini or iPod shuffle, only this time, with a fresh iPod battery.

cheap iPod nano, iPod video, iPod mini or iPod shuffle costs for about $190 to $250 from the cheap iPod or refurbished iPod e-stores.

BID AT EBAY

Try your luck at Ebay and you might get a cheap iPod that costs only $250 for a brand new line.

Many people bid their equipment at Ebay because they need the money far better than the equipment immediately and badly. So most of the times, Ebay sellers sell cheap iPod and part ways with their sleek and sexy iPod because if the immediate need for large sums of money.

You can bid for cheap iPods at Ebay simple by searching "cheap iPods" or sale iPods. There is a chance that you might get a cheap iPod for a brand new iPod nano, iPod video, iPod mini or iPod shuffle.

Take your chance at Ebay, you may never know, you might get that cheap iPod that you want for as cheap as 100 bucks!

BUY YOUR FRIEND'S USED IPOD

All of us have friends who can afford to buy a brand new iPod without the need to starve for a few months of saving or can buy a Porsche car and still remain mortgage free. If you don't have this kind of friends, your friends maybe have this kind of friends.

Apple iPod regularly changes their models; regularly as in every 6 months since the last two years. iPod fanatics do not want to be caught tinkering on their old and already cheap iPod, they want to have the latest model in the market.

These kind of people, your friends or your friends friends, will gladly sell their 3 month old Apple iPod for a cheaper price.

Cheap iPod doesn't always come in a persons way that easily, so grab the chance when someone offers you a cheap iPod for sale!

GO TO EXCHANGE CENTERS

There are some exchange centers on the net or on local newspapers that offer cheap iPod, brand new and refurbished, in exchange of any items of, more or less, equivalent amount. If you have some items that are still of superb condition and might interest those people who are selling cheap iPods, offer your equipment or items in exchange of the cheap iPod.

If you think you don't need your 3G celfone, you can have it exchanged to a person offering brand new but cheap iPod. Or if you have two items that you think with their selling amounts combined could match that of the cheap iPod, then you can part with those items.

Remember to test first the cheap iPod before you make the exchange.

The Apple iPod Mini

Owners of the original Apple iPod clamors for more from the makers of the iPod music experience.
The latest ipod player available in the market comes in a smaller and leaner frame, and is marketed in a rainbow of colors. This is the Apple iPod mini.

The Apple iPod mini has a platform of MAC or Windows OS. Some original Apple iPod users have already seen the Apple iPod mini with a new four gigabytes harddrive space for a US$ 249 price tag. It is not a secret that an additional of US$ 50 will get you a fifteen gigabytes iPod that would store somewhere around 2,700 more music files. That is a lot more than the Apple ipod mini.

This is because harddrive space is so much important for Apple iPod users, the original Apple iPod have so much space available to the user of about forty gigabytes. This amount of space can store more than five thousand songs. Aside from this, the original Apple iPod also has a longer battery life.

However, criticizers should consider the frame of the Apple iPod mini. It is slender and is more styled, that which made it seem more functional and more attractive to the eyes and has a more ergonomic feel to the fingers. To most people, it would not be the ideal music player, but to the 99,000 or so Apple iPod mini users, they beg to disagree.

The Too Sexy Apple iPod Mini

The Apple iPod mini is compared to a US$ 1,200 purse from Chanel. This is because the US$ 249 Apple iPod mini, with its variety of five colors, brings out class and posh.

It has an anodized body made of aluminum and weighs about 3.6 ounces. It measures about 2 inches in width, 3.6 inches in height, and only about half an inch in thickness. It does not look like it at first glance, but the Apple ipod mini is almost like a featherweight than the original Apple iPod.

It is also silky to the touch and smooth. It also fits wonderfully in your palm. This is the reason for the premium price tag.

The Apple iPod mini also has no external moving parts. You will notice that underneath the smaller 1.67-inch LCD screen lie the light touch-sensitive and highly ergonomic Click Wheel. This Click Wheel is the one which incorporates the Apple iPod mini's other controls. The control's buttons are located on the pad itself. This is much different than the original Apple iPod's four function buttons that is located above the scroll pad.

Anyone who is familiar with the software for the iPod knows about the seamless integration of iPod with iTunes. In no time, you would be cruising with the tunes.

The Apple iPod mini behaves just like exactly as other newer generation Apple iPods. It now even packs a battery life of 8 hours. The original Apple iPods have a longer battery life.

Besides the smaller physical dimensions and the new warm minimalist choices of color, which can be gold, silver, pink, green and blue. A major difference observed between the original Apple iPod and the Apple iPod mini is the harddrive space capacity.

The Apple iPod mini has a tiny Hitachi harddrive that can hold about four gigabytes of music. Music files include AAC, Audible, MP3, WAV and AIFF. This is enough storage for a number of Apple iPod mini users.

Apple iPod users usually prefer to carry an entire library of music any time of the day. Rather than manually selecting and transferring specific songs to the Apple iPod mini. The Apple iPod mini can only hold as much as a fraction of the forty gigabytes music collection.

The Apple iPod mini also has accessories that include the earbuds, a USB 2.0 cable and a FireWire dock connector, an AC adaptor, a belt clip, and the Apple iPod mini software.

The Apple iPod mini could have been more lenient by adding a dock or armband to teh package.

The US$ 29 armband is a great help for joggers who want to listen to good music while jogging and carrying the very lightweight and effectively skip-free Apple iPod mini.

Conclusion

To summarize, the Apple iPod mini has a sleek styling, it is a small size and has an excellent integrated Click wheel. It has a possible disadvantage to the user, though, that is the price per megabyte which is much higher as compared to the original Apple iPod.

new topic

I made a blog that did not jive with my URL. I will include the topic of my baby in a more specific blog. But still, I would like to say that you can use the Ipod to store the pictures and videos of your cute babies and your family. By doing so, you bring your music, your videos and your pictures with you and enjoy it anytime. Isn't that fun?

How much does a baby cost?

by Angela Self - This is a nice article.

The first year of parenthood is tough physically, mentally and financially, but there are ways to trim those expenses, says Angela Self.

I don’t have children, yet. But in the past year I’ve helped welcome seven babies into the world. I've watched as my family and friends adjusted, some better than others, to this new addition in their lives.

Many new parents say the first year is often the toughest one - physically, mentally and financially.

One reason having a baby is so expensive is that one of you will likely stop working, at least temporarily. New Canadian mothers are entitled to 15 weeks of pregnancy leave after giving birth. After that, there’s an additional 35 weeks of parental that either parent can take. And although the stay-at-home parent can collect employment Insurance benefits, provided they qualify, they amount to only a portion of Mom or Dad's previous full-time salary. Last week, a federal board ruled that parents of twins can each receive EI benefits for full parental leaves.

At the same time your household income drops, your expenses are rising. The first year of a child’s life is usually one of the priciest, costing the average parents upwards of $8,000 in extra expenses. If you’re expecting a bundle of joy in the near future, check out this baby cost calculator for a detailed list of what items baby will need and how much they could set you back. Keep in mind the information is in U.S. dollars and that American parents, who head back to work much earlier, pay for day care or a nanny for most of that first year.

Outside of child care, there are plenty of necessary baby items that can certainly add up: crib, playpen, bassinet, changing table, baby bath and car seat, to name a few. You’ll pay more for additional usage of utilities like electricity and water - just think of all that additional laundry - as well as clothing and food.

Babycenter.ca has some good tips for new parents looking to cut costs in the first year. When it comes to furniture, for example, their advice is to make a list of what you really need. You can find a sturdy new crib for around $250. Of course, you can also find one for $1,250. But don’t assume a higher price tag means a safer product. All cribs have to meet the same government safety standards.

When you’re looking at cribs, consider one that adapts as your child grows, converting from a crib to a toddler bed to a day bed. That can save you money down the road. Viewpoints.com and eBay.ca are two sites that offer reviews and price comparisons for a variety of makes and models. You can also post a request for items on local parenting sites or on Craigslist.ca. Often times people only use or need baby items for a few months and then they’re ready to get rid of it at a fraction of the original price.

For the 75 (seriously) or so diapers that new parents are changing a week, consider signing up at diaper manufacturers' websites to get coupons – every little bit helps for these necessary purchases. Stores like Babies “R” Us offer coupons periodically on a variety of basic baby items, including diapers. Just sign up at the store to receive coupons by mail or online for promo codes. It’s also a good idea to list some of the basics on your baby registry, so that your friends and family can pitch in on big-ticket items like a car seat, stroller, and high chair.

Another option for cost-savings is to consider going the cloth diaper route. Cloth diapers have come a long way but they certainly aren’t for everyone. You’ll have to weigh the pros and cons. From a financial standpoint, you will save money using cloth over disposable. However, keep in mind that to save money you need to wash the cloth diapers yourself instead of sending them to a laundering service.

One of the best ways to save on baby items is to ask for hand-me-downs from friends with older kids. Five out of the seven new babies I know are girls. They rotate clothes, toys and baby gear. This especially makes sense for age-specific gear like baby swings and bumbos, things a baby outgrows quickly and then end up collecting dust in the basement.

Another way to offset the costs of raising a child is to take advantage of some of the tax deductions, tax credits, and other benefits offered by the federal and provincial governments. You may not qualify for all of these, but you’ll certainly be eligible for some. Make sure to apply as early as you can, as it takes time to process the applications.

The Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) is a government program that gives Canadian families $100 (pre-tax) each month for each child under the age of six. Although it was designed to help cover child care costs, your baby does not need to be in a daycare for you to receive this benefit. However, you do need to fill out an application in order to receive the payment. Apply online here.

New parents should also look into the Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB), which is aimed at low and middle-income families. The amount is based on the age and number of children, family income, and child care expenses. Benefits are paid monthly and are non-taxable. There is a basic benefit for each child under 18. Check out this website or call 1-800-387-1193 for more information.

You may be able to deduct child care expenses from your income when you’re filling out your tax return, so make sure to keep receipts for your child care expenses—from nannies to nursery schools, day and overnight camps. The Canada Revenue Agency site has more information on the deductions.

For more on how parents are saving money visit forums like canadianparents.ca. Or, organize a get together once a month for the new parents you know, to check in and see how everyone is managing and what they’re learning. And, it’s a great opportunity to swap some of that old baby stuff you have lying around and take home some new items.
